Ask Me Anything On Running Your Blog As a Business

Has anyone started their holiday shopping yet? Like, I typically put the stuff off, but I’m excited this year for some odd reason! I think I’m ready for some fun and relaxation in my life. I haven’t properly cooked in a very long time. I just want to bake a ton of pies and get more cellulite on my thighs. Whatevs right? It’s cold anyway.

Let’s do a brief update on life right now. If you’ve been following me on Instagram, you know I took a short break from life by heading to Italy. This was my first time immersing myself in the country and its culture. We started our drive from the north in Turin and wound up south in Rome. It was during this time that Italy was literally shaken up by the largest earthquake it has had in the last 30 years. The tremors were felt all the way in Rome in our hotel room.

Upon getting back to the USA, we were once again shaken up by the election results, this time in a more metaphorical way. Trump is president-elect.

I try to keep my political views out of this blog, but at the end of the day, it is an extension of my life and my views. I’m severely disappointed in the results and at the electoral college, which for the 5th time in history chose the loser as the winner.

I’ve been engrossed in the political unfolding of this nightmare of a story for the past week, which has made it somewhat hard to focus on work. And while Neil deGrasse Tyson embarks on his journey to “make America smart again,” I’m stuck with a feeling of general non-significance.

Suddenly, things seem a little unimportant, and I’m faced with existential questions of “Why?” and “What’s the purpose?” As you can imagine, this is a huge blow on motivation. And I’m not the only one having a little bit of a harder time focusing on life per usual after such an event.

Regardless, a few things happened in the past few weeks:

  • NYC Style Collective, the influencer network I run alongside my partners Cindy and Liz, made our first video campaign with a few of our members for Kapten & Son. This is so exciting! We don’t typically do video campaigns because of how time intensive they are, but we pulled our resources together and made a pretty cool NYC blogger brunch story. You can check it out below.

  • Obviously, Italy. I’m so incredibly fortunate to have seen so many incredible, historic art in the brief time I spent in Italy. I’ll be continually uploading photos to my Instagram account, but I also want to share a glimpse of some of my favorite moments here.
