This past June I found myself ordering a beauty box after I somewhat swore off beauty boxes when I found that I can obtain most of the samples by simply requesting them from the company. In addition, I didn’t appreciate the fact that my drawers and bathroom shelves were getting clogged by products I simply didn’t need or didn’t want to use. I also found that I was getting the same products over and over from my beloved beauty box subscriptions. A common denominator problem in these? I didn’t get a voice in customizing my beauty wants. I still want my box to be a surprise, but I would honestly prefer to get a surprise in the makeup tools or eyeliner department than get yet another straightening product for my already straight hair.
So while on my road-trip, with my husband at the wheel, I tapped away on my phone for a solid hour (blaming the spotty connection) telling Wantable what I preferred to come in my beauty box. I was asked about everything from my preferences in bronzer texture/shades to how bold I like my lips to be (and to what degree I preferred lipgloss vs lipstick vs stain). Basically, they covered all the bases. I usually don’t like to completely limit myself in certain departments, and they made it easy to be indifferent to certain textures or products by providing me with a button to choose that I don’t have a preference and they can go wild with surprising me.
By the time I got back home, I found a nice little surprise box waiting for me. It contained the following full sized products:
– Three Custom Color On Fire Shimmer Creme [Retails for $22.50]: This is a creamy shimmery bronzer in a sleek little compact. The application is practically sheer and can be layer on for deeper glow. The color is subtle and it imparts a subtle sheen on the skin for a glow rather than a deep bronze color.
– Mirabella Brow Trio Set[Couldn’t find the set retail, but estimating a $35 value from similar products on their site]: A trio of luxuriously soft brow colors for blonde, redhead and brunette. This came with an amazing brow brush! The brush deposits just the right amount of color on the brows, defining without producing a clown effect. I found myself blending the brunette and blonde colors for a soft definition.
– Liberty Republic SPELLBOUND nail polish in Talisman [Retails for $14]: I’ll be honest, I’m not the biggest nail aficionado. I still chose to receive something in the nail department though because I realize nails can make or break a look. I’m trying hard to have fun with them! This nail polish is perfect for me. It dries extremely quickly and the formula is smooth enough and easy enough to apply that I don’t get color running down past my cuticles and pooling at the nail bed. It might be the color too, which is a great shimmery gold tone that’s very forgiving with mistakes. It lasts about as long as a regular nailpolish, but for something that I can apply right before leaving the house in 2 minutes flat (no joke, I did this today prior to leaving the house) it’s perfect.
–Vincent Longo #37 Foundation Brush [Retails for $30]: So, I wanted makeup tools. And I honestly wanted a foundation brush so getting this was perfect. Unfortunately, I found that this isn’t my favorite. No fault to the brush really. I just don’t apply foundation often enough to make use of this. When I do apply it, blending with my finger works best for ME. The brush itself feels great, but my fingers are easier for my application.
– Ofra Lip Liner in Savage Red [Retails for $13]: I’ve gotten lip liner in a previous beauty box (not Wantable) and it just kind of sits in my makeup drawer untouched. It’s a deep purple color. Unfortunately, my fair skin doesn’t see a lot of super deep colors on an everyday basis. Luckily, Wantable asked for my color preferences and skin tone and sent this lip liner in a pretty red shade with coral undertones. I used it under my coral red lipstick when going out for a nice crisp color that didn’t budge for a solid 2 hours. Recently, however, I discovered I can slather my lips with lip balm, wait a few minutes, then completely fill in my lips with this liner for the most gorgeous ‘natural’ looking lip color ever. This is now my go-to lipstick.
So what took me so long to post this review? The ultimate test: whether I continue using the products. It’s easy to be excited by new shiny things when they come straight out of the box. I tried the products as soon as they came, but I know myself, I could be excited about them right away and then revert back to my old trusties. Luckily for Wantable box, several of the products became my new trusties. I literally use the lip liner and brow set every day. The shimmer cream and nail polish get their use when I want an extra polish to my look. Unfortunately, the brush doesn’t really come out to play much, and that’s a personal preference.
The verdict? The products that came in this box are worth $114.50 retail. The box subscription itself is $36/month or $40 one time purchase. This is an awesome value!
